The North American Free Trade Agreement facilitates work permits for American and
Mexican citizens, for Investors, Traders, Professionals, and Intra Company Transferees,
by eliminating the requirement for a Labour Market Opinion from Human Resources and
Skills Development Canada. It also allows Business Visitors who meet specified criteria
to work in Canada without a work permit. Many applications can be processed when
entering Canada at the Canadian Immigration office there.
NAFTA provisions are only available to citizens of the USA and Mexico, and not to
permanent residents of those countries. It is not intended to assist in immigration to
Canada, although in fact, a holder of a Work Permit issued under NAFTA may be able to
obtain up to 15 points for Arranged Employment as an Independent Skilled Worker.
