International Students

Studying in Canada can be the first step on the road to Canadian immigration. If you're thinking of studying in Canada, however, you should plan ahead. You will need to be accepted by a qualified Canadian school and have sufficient funds to cover your tuition and living costs. In certain cases, you will need to pass a medical exam.

You and your spouse or common-law partner may want to work in Canada while you're studying. After you graduate, you may be eligible for a post-graduation work permit for up to three years. Later, with some work experience, you may qualify for immigration as a skilled worker. Some provincial nominee programs target recent graduates, and you may not even need to have work experience in order to apply to immigrate.

The right school and study permit can be the key to your long-term immigration plans. Without applying to a qualified school, you may not be eligible for a work permit while studying, or for a post-graduation work permit, or to later immigrate to Canada.

At Lowe & Company, we've helped foreign students put together long-term plans over several years to achieve their long-term work and immigration goals. And as Canada's immigration laws change, we'll revise those plans to take the best advantage of new opportunities.
